There’s a story to Minute by Minute Blues. My father was a French-Canadian immigrant to the US. He moved to Maine in his 20’s and like many contemporaries, learned to speak American English on his own. There was a word: “Bombye” that was spoken by many. As a child, I understood it to mean “later on.” It wasn’t until I was much older that I realized it was a contraction of sorts for “by and by,” a common phrase by New-Englanders. I thought I’d include it as a phrase and of course, I stayed on the subject. Tony on drums and I handle all the other parts.
Lyrics
I'm gonna need a minute … before I say what I gotta say
I'm gonna need a minute … before I say what I gotta say
‘Cause minute by minute, by and by … I’ll be on my way
I'm gonna need a minute … before I go where I gotta go
I'm gonna need a minute … before I go where I gotta go
‘Cause minute by minute, by and by … only you gonna know
You used to give me all your time baby
Now you just makin’ noise
You tell me you're gonna stay home now
And I see you out with all the boys ..
I'm gonna need a minute … before I go where I gotta go
‘Cause minute by minute, by and by … only you gonna know
I'm gonna need a minute … before I do what I gotta do
I'm gonna need a minute … before I do what I gotta do
‘Cause minute by minute, by and by … I’ll still love you
